I liked ‘Fearmakers’ a lot more than I thought I would. I’m not very fond of too much ‘gore’, but in my opinion they used the correct amount and that makes it a better film. Too many horror movies go ‘overboard’ with ‘gore’ ( usually at the expense of story and ‘real fright’ ), so I’m very happy the filmmakers used some restraint.
I also thought they did a great job with the instrumental music for this movie ( it fits the mood perfectly ).
There’s also some humor in this movie that did not seem forced, because it fit the characters well.
I’ve never been very fond of CGI, however they did an excellent job here. Especially when you take into account that this was not some big budget movie. Big budget does NOT mean quality CGI. Anybody remember the CGI in Van Helsing? Need I say more on that subject? A woman from Chicago, ‘Sarah’ ( played by multi-talented Debbie Rochon ) goes to Germany to search for answers to her sister’s murder.
Debbie Rochon as ‘Sarah’, is outstanding as usual. Debbie always does her best with whatever material she’s given to work with. She’s dedicated beyond words to her craft, and a true artist in every sense of the word. I have never seen her ‘going-through-the-motions’ in any movie, or show.
Debbie has a type of scene in ‘Fearmakers’ that’s in too many movies to count. It’s the type of scene that’s usually done for salacious reasons. However, that’s NOT the end result in this movie. Debbie, gives a really strong ‘internal’ performance in this specific scene. Her character is experiencing a very emotional loss in her life, and during this part of the film you feel her character’s anguish. The look in her eyes will haunt you. Debbie’s ‘quiet’ performances don’t seem to get the same amount of attention that her ‘intense’ performances get, and that’s a crime.
